BREAST TESTING

All breast tests are “screening” tests. Thermograms are the only functional/physiological tests, which can identify your risk factor for cancerous, or precancerous conditions (especially stage 0 cancer, e.g. DCIS(1), 5-8 years before structural tests such as mammograms or ultrasounds. If you didn’t know already, the specificity (accurately identifying an individual is disease-free) of Therma-Scan is 90% and sensitivity (accurately identifying disease when present) 92%, greatly due to the cold-water stress test we perform. We have shared with you for years that no one test is 100% accurate. Now we are pleased to announce the latest research confirms it: when combining thermography with ultrasound the efficacy is nearly 100%. Why is thermography your first and best choice? Ultrasounds (sound waves instead of radiation) as a standalone structural test have a specificity of 88%, and sensitivity of 80%*, which again “when combined with 90-92% accuracy with Therma-Scan is the most effective combination of testing available for women today”, according to Phillip Hoekstra, PhD, Clinic Director and founder of Therma-Scan. (FYI, as a comparison, mammograms have been shown to have a sensitivity of 85% at best (for women with dense breasts the sensitivity falls as low as 44%), and a specificity below 25%! Additionally, there is no radiation with a thermogram and/or ultrasound.

*Ultrasound can detect risk factor for breast cancer by 48% - 97% as stated in some literature. Rather than using one study, when

pooling results among research papers, ultrasound results as stated above: specificity of 88%, and sensitivity of 80%, are not as

efficient at detecting Stage 0 cancer. This is when breast cancer is non-invasive. There are also more false positives than with

thermography – two vital reasons to discover changes 5-8 years earlier with thermography over structural testing.

TH3 & TH4 RESULTS & HIGH-RISK PATIENTS

If your report has revealed a TH3 or TH4 result and you have avoided further testing when recommended by your physician due to the radiation of mammography, call your physician today to discuss the efficacy of having an ultrasound. If your physician agrees that an ultrasound would be the next best step, and because hospitals will perform a mammogram first, we recommend an internet search in your area for any independent radiologist who performs mammograms, as they will also perform ultrasounds. By going to a Michigan-based radiologist, the ultrasound in many cases will be covered by insurance, oftentimes even with Medicare, or preapproval from Medicare Advantage programs. Once you have a script from your physician and are scheduled, be sure to bring your thermography results to your ultrasound appointment for the technician to better focus on the area in question.
